The building will be 21 stories tall with 226 apartment units and 2,700 square feet of retail and restaurant space. Other amenities include a pool on the sixth floor.
It was created by F.D. Rich Co. along with H.I.G. Realty Partners of New York, and The Andalex Group.
The celebration was held at the job site, with Mia Schipani of Stamford Center for the Arts serving as emcee.
Thomas L. Rich, president and CEO of F.D. Rich Co.; Stamford Mayor David Martin; Sandra Goldstein, president of Stamford Downtown Special Services District; and Steven F. McDonald, president of Erland Construction, also spoke at the event.
Those in attendance signed a steel beam, which was raised and put in place during the ceremony.
“It’s a great day in downtown Stamford when we can join together to watch steel rise on not just a construction project, but on a project where people will ultimately live,” Rich said. “Urban housing is what continues to propel Stamford closer to its goal of becoming a great little 21st century city. After a 45-year renewal effort, I think the stage has clearly been set for housing creation, right in urban core, that will continue unabated for the foreseeable future.”
Lessard Design of Vienna, Va., is the project’s architect. Erland Construction is the construction manager.
“These types of projects involve hundreds and hundreds of people – from the owner and consultants to the many tradesmen and those making and delivering materials to the site – so success requires teamwork and good communication,” McDonald said. “We have an amazing crew working on this project, and it is equally exciting for them to see steel coming out of the ground and have Summer House truly begin to take shape.”
Construction was started in 2013. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2015.
