The money will be used for emergency preparedness efforts and will be put toward the purchase of a generator for its Greenwich headquarters.
Abilis serves more than 700 individuals a year, including 200 adults with a range of developmental disabilities. The Greenwich headquarters serves as the base from which Abilis delivers day programming to these adults, including competitive and supported employment, as well as recreational activities that foster skill development and social relationships.
“Since many of the individuals we serve have a difficult time adapting to change and going to unfamiliar places, it is critical for Abilis to sustain power during extended outages to provide a safe and familiar environment for those in our care,” said Abilis President/CEO Dennis Perry in a press release.
Abilis is grateful for the support it has received from the First County Bank Foundation the past 13 years, the agency said in a press release.
“Through the generosity of the Foundation and the Town of Greenwich, Abilis will be able to serve as a safe haven for not only our program participants, but also elderly residents and other community members who might need access to power during emergencies,” Perry said in the release. “This is in keeping with our goal to serve as an integral community partner within the Greenwich community.”
Abilis has been a leader in serving the special needs community in lower Fairfield and Westchester counties for almost 65 years and has a long-standing reputation for individualized, high quality care, according to a press release. For additional information about Abilis and its services, go here.
