Stamford Youth Mentoring Programs Receive Funds From First Niagara

NORWALK, Conn. — Connecticut's youth are among beneficiaries of $1 million in grants from the First Niagara Foundation.

The grants are provided by the bank's Mentoring Matters programs to support not-for-profit youth mentoring programs. The grants will also go to organizations across New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

The recipients in Connecticut are the Bridgeport Public Education Fund Inc. in Bridgeport; the Human Services Council Inc. in Norwalk; Norwalk Community College in Norwalk; and the Stamford Public Education Foundation Inc.

Mentoring Matters supports organizations that help children improve their grades and school attendance, enhance their self-esteem, avoid the dangers of drugs and alcohol and have a better opportunity for a brighter future.

Thirty-eight organizations will share in the $1 million grant award.
