Stamford Sisters Keep Things 'Rich' With Their Norwalk Chocolate Shop

NORWALK, Conn. -- It's chocolate-covered strawberry season at Chocolate Rain Shop in Norwalk as the store gets ready for Valentine's Day, its busiest day of the year. According to Diana Gould who owns the shop with her sister, Helen, chocolate strawberries sell particularly well on Feb. 14 as do truffles and boxed heart chocolates.

The two Stamford residents, who have owned the shop for a little over four years, say their journey into the world of chocolate began at New York’s International Culinary Center, where they first got a “taste” of the rich (pun intended) learning environment. "After attending a selection of many different specialty classes, we still continue to be on a constant search to bring our customers what we deem to be, truly, the finest ingredients," said Diana.

She said their passion lies in creating artisan chocolates with the best of the best. That means using Couverture Belgian chocolate and the creamiest caramel, to premium grade Granny Smith apples.

All treats are inspired by European and American styles and made on the premises using the highest quality ingredients. Chocolate Rain Shop also does a big customization business.

"We like to think our chocolates are like good friends," said Diana. "Each one is unique, they bring comfort when you need them most, and they are, of course, as fun as they are sweet. To us, crafting our chocolate is not only a tasty science, but an ongoing art."

The store, not normally open on Sundays, will have extended hours for Valentine's Day. Chocolate Rain Shop is located at 69 Wilton Ave., (203) 956-6000, www.ChocolateRainShop.com/.
