The native of Stamford, Conn., said there were only three jewelry stores in Larchmont at the time. She specialized in buying and selling silver and gold when she first opened. There were 35 jewelers in Stamford, so she liked the odds of staying in business in Larchmont.

She invested and bet right.

On Wednesday, Valenti and her husband, Bill, the store's jeweler, celebrated their 35th year in business.

In 1995, the store moved up the street to 1925 Palmer Ave., where it has operated ever since.

Today, there are six jewelry stores in Larchmont, including the Valentis. To thank their customers, Cynthia said they'll be offering special deals all month.

Megan McCarthy, a community advisor to Daily Voice, said, "It's 'the' place for local rites of passage, such as girls' ear piercings."

On Thursday, someone was picking out charms for a bracelet, and the store was being upgraded with new cabinet lighting.
