Stamford Hospital Receives $1 Million From OdysseyRe

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Hospital had received the first $1 million of a $10 million commitment from OdysseyRe for the  OdysseyRe Emergency Department and Trauma Center at the rebuilt hospital.

“As a company, we believe it is important to support the communities in which our employees live and work,” Brian Young, president and CEO of OdysseyRe, said in a news release from the hospital. “We know that Stamford Hospital is a cornerstone of our community, and we are extremely excited to be part of the new hospital plans and to help ensure quality healthcare for years to come.”

Brian Grissler, president and CEO of the hospital, said in the release, “As we make progress on our plans for the new Stamford Hospital, this type of support is even more significant and will have a resounding impact on our patients and the care we can provide for years to come.” 

The new Stamford Hospital will be built in one single phase and will be completed in 2016, the statement said. Key features of the hospital include new patient care units with all private rooms, an Emergency Department with separate areas for different emergencies, a new pediatric unit and more.

OdysseyRe is a worldwide underwriter of reinsurance and specialty insurance company headquartered in Stamford. The company has been a supporter of the hospital for many years before the $10 million grant, which included a $2 million donation for the da Vinci Surgical System, the release said.
