Shop And Dine 'Small' for Small Business Saturday, Stamford

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- After the rush of the big box and mall crowds on Black Friday, local businesses are hoping people will tackle their shopping lists by shopping Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26.

The team at Fjord Fish Market took a quick break from preparing for their lunch crowd to show their enthusiasm for supporting our local community and for Small Business Saturday's event.

This year marks the 7th Annual Small Business Saturday, a celebration of America’s local business community, coordinated by Small Business Administration in partnership with American Express, Women Impacting Public Policy and others.

Small Business Saturday 2015 saw more than 95 million Americans spending a combined $16.2 billion at independent neighborhood retailers and restaurants. Locally-sourced and unique handmade gifts topped lists, as well as “dining small” at their favorite local eatery.

“The New York SBA office supports 1.6 million small businesses employing 5 million people,” said Beth Goldberg, District Director of the New York SBA. “Small Business Saturday is our day to express our economic patriotism to these companies and give back to the locally-owned enterprises that do so much for our local economy.”

Across America, small businesses are responsible for creating two out of every three net new jobs. According to the Kauffman Foundation’s 2016 Main Street Entrepreneurship Index, small business survival is up over the past year but businesses are staying smaller.
