In the first two years of the program, a total of 82 high school students participated. This year there will be 75, with 20 working at Starwood Hotels. Sacred Heart has created a curriculum for the hotel group’s interns to learn Digital Marketing for three weeks before working in the field for the other three weeks of the program, a news release said.

“This partnership lays the groundwork for our long-term vision of integrating education and skills training in this high-growth field into the public high school curriculum in order to better prepare students for the needs of today’s rapidly evolving businesses,” Kenneth Siegel, chief administrative officer and general counsel for Starwood, said in the release.

“It creates the opportunity to take the vision of the (Mayor’s Youth Employment Program) intern program to a whole new level in a rapidly evolving sector. It would be my hope that we could extend this type of commitment to other industries down the road,” Mayor Michael Pavia said in a news release, describing the partnership as a “win-win.”

The program was started to help inspire and prepare students for the workplace in a number of different fields, the release said. Nearly 50 organizations and businesses across Stamford are participating this year.
