STAMFORD, Conn. -- Michael Wathen, a partner at the Stamford office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, has received the business leadership award from The Business Council of Fairfield County at a ceremony held at the Stamford Marriott Hotel.
The Walter H. Wheeler Jr. Leadership Award, named after the former Pitney Bowes president and chairman, celebrates corporate leadership in the community.
“Mike has focused his business community leadership on achievement and advancement through education and mentoring.” Business Council of Fairfield County President and CEO Christopher Bruhl said in a statement.
“He has been a regional leader in the areas of education and workforce preparedness, and his commitment to build the capacity of area non-profit organizations has allowed them to strengthen their ability to serve our community."
Wathen has a long history with a range of civic and social organizations. With Norwalk-based Junior Achievement and Stamford-based Inroads, Wathen worked within these groups’ missions to help underserved youth prepare to enter the workforce, become financially literate and learn the skills to assume corporate and community leadership roles.
In addition, Wathen participated in Stamford-based BuildOn’s and United Way’s efforts to create social change that breaks cycles of poverty and produces healthy, well-educated families.
Wathen lives in New Canaan with his family. He was chairman of the Board of Directors for The Business Council for four years, ending his term in 2012.
The award was presented by John Stewart, president and CEO of Purdue Pharma and chairman of the council's Board of Directors.
