WESTPORT, Conn. — Part science fair, part country fair, Maker Faire, a catalyst for tinkerers, artisans, engineers and those who think way outside the proverbial box, is coming back to Westport this Earth Day.

One of the largest annual events held in town, Maker Faire Westport is expected to bring a record 10,000 fans to Westport Library on Jesup Green, the Taylor parking lot and other locations around downtown from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22.

“Every year, we see the best, most creative people in the area at Maker Faire Westport,” said Mark Mathias, founder and co-chair of Maker Faire Westport. “With this year’s event theme of ‘Earth,’ we expect to see even more amazing makers and their creations.”

Events to see include the Virtual Reality Safari, Amazon Alexa Demo Bar, Nerdy Derby, Human Foosball, 3D printers, artists, musicians, K-12 and college student activities, robots, crafts and more.

In addition to the typical makers, be sure to see the 9.5 foot tall Hulkbuster that was a hit at New York Comic Con and a popular “escape room” created especially for the Maker Faire.

More than 100 makers have signed up, so this will be the biggest and most fun event in Maker Faire Westport history.

Food trucks will be available and plenty of family-friendly events, which are free and open to the public.

Maker Faire Westport began in 2011 as the first official Maker Faire event in Connecticut. It has grown to become Connecticut’s largest event focused on creativity and innovation.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, Calif., and in 2016 celebrated its 11th annual show with more than 1,200 makers and 150,000 people in attendance.

“We are excited that we can continue to provide a forum for our vibrant Maker community to share their creativity and concern for the Earth,” said Alex Giannini, manager of Experiential Learning at the Westport Library and co-chair of Maker Faire Westport.
