Chris Dall’au said he came up with the business idea one day when he was preparing snacks for a Super Bowl party. He decided to make his own original twist on the tradition arancini by stuffing the rice balls with chili and cheddar for the big game.

“That was the moment I realized you could put anything in those,”he told Daily Voice on Friday, and the business soon began.

The Dall’au Family began its business on the Upper West Side, where they originally sold their product wholesale to local pizzerias. They still keep NYC in their name, although their business is focused on serving Connecticut.

When Chris and Danielle married, they moved to Stamford, where Danielle’s father lives. And they set their eyes on the food truck business.

“We decided that because this was originally a street food in Sicily, we wanted to bring it back to the street,” Chris Dall’au said.

But he said his business is unusual because these days arancini are typically sold in high-end Italian restaurants in the United States — not in food trucks.

Their arancini come in many different flavors from the traditional to vegan to gluten free. They even sell dessert balls.

While the Dall’aus, who now live in Fairfield, have many different variations, they only sell a few each day at the food truck. Chris Dall’au said they are considering opening a brick and mortar store so they can sell more varieties each day.

But for now he’s quite content with the food truck.

“The food truck scene in Fairfield County has been very good to us,” he said. “It’s a part of the country where someone can really start something and be successful.”
