The AWBC is a national not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1998.  Its mission is to support "entrepreneurial development among women as a way to achieve economic self-sufficiency, create wealth and participate in economic development through education, training, mentoring, business development and financing opportunities," according to its website

"There are over 100 Women's Business Centers across the nation. The AWBC ensures that their concerns and those of the women they serve are heard in Washington," AWBC Chair of the Executive Committee Marsha Bailey said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have Fran Pastore, who has been a tireless advocate for women-owned businesses for over 16 years, leading that effort."

Pastore was one of nine business owners to be named to the National Women's Business Council in March. She is serving a three year term as an adviser who provides advice and policy recommendations to the president, Congress and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Pastore founded the WBDC in Stamford in 1997 and has assisted in launching and growing thousands of businesses throughout Connecticut.
