“It’s really going to make the South End the place to be for the spring and summer months. That doesn’t happen very often. You may see it in the islands or in Florida, but not in the Northeast,” said John Heil, a partner of Imian Hospitality, the New Canaan-based firm behind the Beer Garden @ Harbor Point.

Heil said he and his partners are fans of the al fresco dining experience and are always looking for properties suited for it. The Beer Garden @ Harbor Point will also have commuter boat slips for people coming in off the water. The landlord, Building and Land Technology, will provide a water taxi between it and the restaurants on the other side of the harbor.

This spring and summer, the Beer Garden will not have a kitchen but has enlisted the help of several local food trucks to fill the void. The food trucks will rotate with Lobster Craft as the lead truck. On opening day, owner William Michael Harden will dock his boat and grill lobsters at the Beer Garden’s fire pit.

“It’s going to be a fun summer fling,” Heil said. Once the season ends in October, they will shut down and build a full kitchen on the property. The plan is to have the Beer Garden as an “anchor” for Harbor Point development.

The Beer Garden will feature 24 craft beers on draft, including Dogfish Head and Captain Lawrence as well as local Connecticut brewers Thomas Hooker and Two Roads Brewing, a statement said. Master mixologist Jason Clark has also created several “American-centric” cocktails, the company said.

“These brewers put just as much work into creating their craft ales as a great chef does in creating a unique food dish,” Heil said, describing craft beer as the latest culinary fad.

The Beer Garden@ Harbor Point will be open Wednesdays through Fridays from 4 p.m. until last call and Saturdays and Sundays from noon until last call.
