Array Of Shops At Danbury, Stamford Malls Opening On Thanksgiving

DANBURY/STAMFORD, Conn. -- Getting up in the middle of the night on the day after Thanksgiving to go shopping is a thing of the past. Dedicated bargain hunters in Fairfield County can now hit the mall on Thanksgiving Day.

Both the Danbury Fair Mall and the Stamford Town Center will open at 8 p.m., Thursday, with a selection of stores both big and small open on the holiday. 

Danbury Fair Mall, one of the largest malls in the region, will open its doors at 8 p.m,. Thursday, with an array of shops open. Big department stores Macy's, JCPenney and Sears as well as Dick's Sporting Goods lead the way.

  • Justice
  • Lids
  • NY & Co.
  • Old Navy
  • Pac Sun
  • Pagoda +
  • Perfumania

  • Victoria's Secret
  • Yankee Candle

Still hungry after Thanksgiving dinner? These fast food restaurants will be open as well: Arby's, Famous Cajun and Starbucks. 

For shoppers who enjoy the once a year chance to hit the mall in the middle of the night, Danbury Fair will offer entertainment from midnight to 7 a.m. Shoppers can look for Mister Freezy and the Snow Queen. Mischievous Winter Sprites will delight with surprise displays of juggling, acrobatics, stilt walking, unicycling and free-line skating. 

Most of the rest of the mall's stores will open at midnight. But in a bit of shopping mix-up, JCPenney will then close from 12:01 to 3:59 a.m. and reopen at 4 a.m. Friday with Black Friday deals. Lord & Taylor will open at 5 a.m.

At the Stamford Town Center, some retailers will open beginning at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day:

Kids and adults of all ages can visit Santa Claus at both malls. 

Don't approve of shopping on Thanksgiving? It's banned in Rhode Island, Maine and Massachusetts. 

A new poll by University of Connecticut found that 93 percent of Americans do not plan to shop on Thanksgiving Day. Nearly half disapprove of the shops even opening on the holiday. Read more about the poll here on The Daily Voice.
