STAMFORD, Conn. -- Local artisans are celebrated at Against the Grain in Stamford, where "made in the U.S." matters.

The store, which opened in January, 2016, is run by Stamford residents Chris Meier and Beth Patterson-Meier with the mission of providing handcrafted wood and nautical items from artists across the U.S. and Canada. While furniture is the main focus, customers will also find plenty of home decor, gifts, jewelry and children's toys.

The store is an extension of what Meier originally opened with his parents in Cape Cod seven years ago. Woodworks Gallery in Brewster, MA was where he first began to establish relationships with the Amish craftsman that not many people were paying attention to.

"We have very good relationships with our Amish partners and they have become the best sources for Amish furniture," said Meier who lives in the Harbor Point area just steps away from the store.
